 Candlemas
The Candlemas festival takes place on 2nd February each year and commemorates both the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the presentation of Christ in the Temple which took place 40 days after his birth. The bringing of Christ, the Light of the World, to the Temple, is celebrated in the liturgy by the congregation bearing lit candles. This festival ends the season of Epiphany and the liturgical colour may return to everyday green until the beginning of Lent.
