Times of The Year
Easter

Holy Saturday is the day in which the Church recalls Christ's decent into hell that he might liberate those saved by God's grace. Late in the evening of this day, after sunset, the Church begins to look toward Easter and to celebrate Christ’s victory over death by his mighty resurrection. This is marked by the keeping of the Easter Vigil, a service in which the new Pascal Candle is lit and carried into the darkened church. Lessons are read from the scriptures recounting God's saving acts. The Exultet (an ancient hymn of praise) is sung and the people renew their baptismal promises or new members are received into the Church through baptism. The first Eucharist of Easter may also be celebrated at this service.

On the Sunday, Easter Day, the whole congregation celebrate the resurrection of Christ with great joy. The church is decorated in beautiful floral displays and the liturgical colour is white or gold. The children in the congregation are encouraged to join in an Easter egg hunt in the gardens to recall the excitement of that first Easter morning when the disciples encountered the risen Lord. The egg is an ancient symbol of new life and represents the stone that was rolled from the entrance to the tomb to allow Jesus' followers to find it empty.

The joyful Easter season continues for 50 days.

The present years Easter date is Apr-08-2012.
