 Epiphany
The word "Epiphany" comes from a Greek one meaning "manifestation". This season ends that of Christmas. It begins on 6th January and recalls the arrival of the wise men from the East to worship the Christ Child with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The figures of the wise men are added to the Crib scene and remain there until Candlemas. The scriptural readings during the season of Epiphany refer to times when Christ's glory was revealed to those around him i.e. at his Baptism in the Jordan and his first miracle (turning water into wine at the wedding at Cana in Galilee).
